"This area has to do with logic, abstractions, inductive and deductive reasoning, and numbers. While it is often assumed that those with this intelligence naturally excel in mathematics, chess, computer programming, and other logical or numerical activities, a more accurate definition places emphasis less on traditional mathematical ability and more reasoning capabilities, abstract pattern recognition, scientific thinking and investigation, and the ability to perform complex calculations.
Careers which suit those with this intelligence include scientists, mathematicians, engineers, doctors and economists." (Wikipedia)
I am not an American, so I have no say at all in who will eventually get into the presidential office, but I have to say, that if McCain/Palin gets in, I'd be scared shitless. And a lot of it is about the fact that McCain is five thousand years old, and Palin, with her stance on abortion and her religious views (religion and politics should NOT EVER be intertwined to the point that it is in the States, and other nations) would put America back to a terrible backwards place. Please vote Obama......as would Opie and the Fonz.....
Okay...it's been AGES!!! I need to come out of my dungeon more often....
Seems that the vids I made a while ago are disappearing from those places they were posted....so I threw them up at imeem.....there are three of them....I am sort of working on a new one, if I ever get the time and the patience to finish it (it's a McKay/Sheppard one...)
So I took a nerd test that I found on icarusancalion site. BTW...head over there if you're a fan of McShep stories set in the AU world. She's writing a great Figure Skating AU (I know....??Figure Skating???!!! BUT IT WORKS) called Out of Bounds. I like figure skating, and the whole figure skating underbelly is just right, with lovely McShep interaction.
Anyways...this is the result
Cool High Nerd.
cool
I may be back with more AU recs soon. I find I'm really enjoying the AU scene...while I am waiting anxiously for season 4 to start!!
Taken lovingly from TVSquad site...this is the sci-fi panel for SGA, with Joe Mallozzi, Paul Mullie, Rachel Luttrell and David Hewlett. It's quite long (34 minutes), but as a geek, I sat through it all....and was entertained.
Now, I used to watch Soprano's when it first came out, but I lost interest after the second year, not for lack of love for show, but for the fact that it was just too damn long between seasons (take note Sci-Fi--don't do this to Atlantis). I just gave up on it, and my interest turned to other shows like Stargate Atlantis, ReGenesis, Slings and Arrows, Lost (before they jumped the shark), and others (most cancelled too soon--damn networks).
With all the hype for the finale, I kept an ear out to how the show wrapped up--I really did want to see a definite finish to the show...and Valentine's Day massacre of sorts for the Soprano family....you know; playing with fire, and you get burned; you reap what you sew type of outcome.
Nope.
Disappointed....and okay, you can use the ending and make your own 'what happened after Meadow walked into the restaurant' conclusion, but it still leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth--or the rancid taste of a turned cannoli.
Taking a cue from the last stanza of The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot:
This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper.
I will change his rather wonderful ending to his poem, and make it fit the Soprano's finale:
This is the way the show ends This is the way the show ends This is the way the show ends Not with a bang, but a dinner.
I read the story "Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose" a while back, and I loved it, even though it made me cry. ME. CRY. I'm not really a crier, but dammit, it was that good. It's a McShep, but without the Shep part....so, dammit all, it's a tearjerker. It focuses on Rodney after he and the rest of the Atlantis gang get back to earth, and his life therein.
The tag on the author's site (you must go, even if you're not a slasher) says it all: "Because the meaning of life is 'Do the next thing', and we all carry the seeds of the past into our future."
If you've finished reading it, there is a wonderful vid called "This is How it Works" by lim, which is basically a wonderful tribute to the story. It is McShep, done to Regina Spektor's On The Radio. Song is great, the look of the video is great, and it is edited very very well.
Here it is:
I'm loving this embed thing.
My livejournal may actually come in handy for something!!! Yeah!
And one day, I will learn how to do those fancy cut things, but for now, please be patient........
Over at scifiheaven.net, they have been posting links to some very cool speed drawings hosted on youtube. I'm not sure if you've seen these, but they are incredible. The way they can use a computer tablet and make something so realistic. I simultaneously hate and love these people...hate for the fact that I have the artistic skill of a stick figure drawer, and love, for the fact that they can do these things so beautifully! Watch them, and be amazed, and envious, and awed.
I've posted a couple of my favourites:
The first three from the same artist (NEXX)
Jack Bauer "24":
John Locke "LOST":
An actual video of the artist using canvas and paint doing "Lord of the Rings":
and one of Kate from "Lost" by another artist:
WOW.
Check out youtube for many more speed paintings.....
woohooo!! two in one day!! And instead of doing laundry and tearing the carpet out of the bedrooms, I'm doing this....
A cute sci-fi promo of SGA with David Hewlett at the end....I saw the pictures of this being shot in a Joseph Mallozzi blog entry (who you should read if you like stargate, food, sci-fi books, snark, food, and a twisted sense of humour (aimed at the extreme shipper fans out there)). Joe's blog http://josephmallozzi.blogspot.com/index.html
Oh yeah....self promoting too!! Just a FYI again....my vids are now downloadable, and available (damn youtube)...if you want that....and can be found at http://www.mctdcb.fanvids.info/ Say thanks to Lindsay everyone "THANK YOU"
I really hope this works....had me giggling like a loon. Now, I do have the season two box set, but haven't had time to watch more than the first disc. Now I will have to pop them in for more squishy goodness like this!
BTW...if embed didn't work, here's the clip on ifilm....
It seems that youtube is yanking vids left and right, and unfortunately, my Allies and Changes videos have got the boot. So far, Carson is still up, but who knows for how long.
So Lindsay, a wonderful WONDERFUL person, has volunteered to host the videos for me!! A place where you can actually SAVE THEM!! SQUEEEEEEEE!
My little corner of her wonderful universe is http://www.mctdcb.fanvids.info/ which has all three of my vids. Please VISIT!!! Lindsay is currently get her site up and running, and if you check out the home page, she is working on setting up pages for people like me.....the video homeless. Please check out her site, as it is being sorted and built, and maybe, if you have any vids, join her little corner of the web!! http://www.fanvids.info/
Peace, and thanks for watching!!!
edit:
The three vids recapped:
Allies - season 2 finale video set to "smoke 'n oakum" from the "Master and Commander" Soundtrack. An episode instrumental recap.
Changes - video looks at all the characters, but heavy on the McKay and Sheppard. It shows how they have changed in the course of the three seasons (spoilers up to mid-late season3).
Carson - Spoilers for SUNDAY!!! Basically a video of love and appreciation for Carson Beckett/Paul McGillion set to "My Heart Cries for You" as sung by Serena Ryder.
Well, it's still January in 2007, so this years LJ is off to a fine start!!! What's happening??? Total depression. Yep. Had to finally take my oldest cat (Sam, not pictured in icon, that's Tucker) into the vet to be put down. She was 17, and really, really looking and feeling bad. It was to the point where I would go downstairs and wonder if she was still alive or not (but she always was....fighter, that one). It was just getting to hard for her to keep anything in, she had no control of herself, and her existence consisted of sleeping and being ill. I couldn't stay when I took her in...I couldn't be in the room...just cried in the car on the way home. The other two cats are wondering where she went....her bed I cleaned, and is now empty, and they are eyeing it suspiciously. They never got along with her, but it's like the old matriarch of the clan died (I liken it to the old cat from that musical, but I was the one singing Memories as I drove home). I hope she is in a better, painfree place, with all the tuna she can eat.
Now, to continue the depressing entry.....
I just did a new vid (this one only took a week, as opposed to the other which took forever (fricking WMM)). Oh, don't get me wrong, it's still fricking WMM, but I had much less edits, so it only crashed half as much, and I learned my 'saving the file' lesson early.
WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN UP TO AND INCLUDING THE EPISODE SUNDAY IN SEASON 3 OF STARGATE ATLANTIS, DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO. I MEAN IT.....SPOILERS THAT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE!!!! Now, on with the explanation. It is a Carson Beckett video, with Rodney McKay a close second in focus (afterall, they are frick and frack), but all the cast make appearances. A love letter to Carson, if you will, but it is friendship only, no slash (but you will make of it what you will). Music is "My Heart Cries for You". Song sung by Serena Ryder. Edited by me, owned by MGM and all those kids on the west coast.
The vid is here, and I'll put a link under it, if you want to see it in a larger format (not the greatest (grrr WMM), but bigger).
Let me know if you like it.....and since I'm not posting it anywhere else, tell your friends and neighbours about the vid if you liked it (but make sure they have seen up to SUNDAY!!!!)
Okay.....I think I have the video up on youtube (tried reupping a better version, but not that much difference). Still not the greatest quality, but I don't have a website of my own to host vids, so I'll take what I can get. It is MAJOR SPOILERS for up to season 3 episode 10 (I used almost every ep between S1e01 to S3E10, except two!). Done to David Bowie's 'Changes', it looks at the entire cast, and, well, their changes over the years......done with WMM (and all its problems (arghhh))...more explanation on the video info portion of the youtube site.
Wow, two entries in as many months!!!! I go girl!! (groan).....
Been busy working and reading some terrific Atlantis fanfic....I know I don't really post reviews or kudos, but some of the stories at Wraithbait, and on fanfiction.net are simply fan-freakin-tastic!!! I go for the Rodney-centric stories....and maybe, one day, if I get organized, I may post links to some of my absolute favourites....ones that you must read!! oh, hell.....here's a link to a story (written in parts), that I love, in that there is whump (!), and realistic consequences of that whump (!). A little different than the show in some aspects (Rodney's interest in a certain person), but so well done, it's one I have read a few times. Salt of the Earth, by Dasha.
And in the tooting of my own horn dept, I've done a new video. Unfortunately, WMM is giving me major trouble, and I can't get the video to save as a great quality (the only thing I could get it to save as was a 723M version DV-AVI, which I had to donwconvert, and the video, which is pristine in the WMM is digitized and pixelated on the downconverted version). But since no one (and not even ME!), wants to download a 3 and a half minute music video of 723M, this is the best I could come up with. It may have to do with the 5 million edits (and for each edit, a subsequent crash of said WMM) in the video, but I hope that it is watchable enough ( I actually found it easier watching it in the small format, not full screen on youtube). And thanks to youtube for allowing me to throw these things up somewhere, in case you actually want to see them.
Wow...it's been ages!! Still alive, for now. Posted a vid (I hope it worked) at youtube. It's the Allies video I did a long while back, but only had up for a bit at yousendit. Its under user mctdcb...Allies video. This link may or may not work.....I hope it may. Set to dramatic instrumental music from Master and Commander...very very spoilery for those not past season 2 (its the season 2 finale).
Just read a very cute article in the Toronto Star....makes me wonder if I should wander over to the website, so I can seek a "Trip Tucker or Rodney McKay" type....maybe a 'Trip McKay'? hmmmm.....
